Soul Story friends asked how Sun Warrior was selected to name Soul Story’s first broad spectrum sunscreen. By definition, in former times, a warrior was a brave, courageous or experienced fighter. Here are notable legendary female warriors recorded in history who had grit, courage and vision.
Rosa Parks (1913 -2005)
We thank Rosa Park’s decision to sit at the front of the bus and her refusal to move that sparked the United States civil rights movement. Occurring in the mid1950s, the Montegomery bus boycott in Alabama State is considered to be the beginning of the civil rights movement against racial segregation and discrimination.
Florence Nightingale (1820 -1910)
Florence Nightingale was a trailblazing figure in nursing who greatly affected 19th- and 20th-century health care policies around improving sanitary conditions. She was born into a wealthy Italian family but pursued nursing since she felt it was her calling. We thank her and her team of nurses for significantly improving the unsanitary conditions at a British base hospital. Nightingale’s writings influenced and sparked the 1860 worldwide health care reform.
Joan of Arc (1412 -1431)
Joan was a legendary female warrior and a Roman Catholic saint. The French owe much to her for assisting France’s King Charles VII to push the English in the latter part of the Hundred Years’ War and her contribution to end the Siege of Orleans in just nine days.
Tragically, she was accused of heresy and was burned to death, but her military strategies are said to have influenced the French battle model. It took 460 years after her death that Pope Benedict XV declared Joan a saint.
The Trung Sisters (Circa AD 12 – AD 43)
Trac Trung and Nhi Trung were trained in martial arts by their father who was a prefect of Mê Linh. They grew up learning the art of warfare and were trained in physical fighting. During the Chinese occupation, the Trung sisters began their campaign against the Chinese, leading nearly 80,000 warriors including many women generals. For three years, they were able to keep their country relatively free of Han rule through sheer force. There are conflicting records between the Chinese and Vietnamese about the Trung sisters’ cause of death that occurred in 43 AD, when their troops were badly defeated.

Contemporary Women Warriors
Today’s women warriors are the grandmothers, mothers, sisters, daughters, cousins and friends who make a difference on a day to day basis. These women warriors can be fiercely feminine, smart, educated, ethical, creative, talented, spiritual, enthusiastic and/or empathetic who have dreams and visions with a plan to make a difference. Rather than being driven by jealousy and insecurities, they raise each other up by supporting and respecting each other’s goals and dreams.
Soul Story’s sunscreen Sun Warrior was inspired by all the badasses of legendary female warriors and contemporary women warriors. Sun Warrior sunscreen is made 100% in Korea, to help protect people’s largest organ, the skin, from harmful UVA rays causing premature aging and UVB rays causing skin cancer. It is formulated with rich antioxidants to help with anti-aging and skin rejuvenation to help people feel confident and healthy to fight (in a good way) another day.
She was powerful, not because she wasn’t scared but because she went on so strongly despite the fear. ~ Atticus
