Proper hydration keeps skin healthy. Moisturizers lock in moisture which prevent water loss from wind, circulated air including air conditioners and heaters. Moisturizing properly will help you achieve smoother, softer, and radiant skin.
Rubbing instead of dab-dab, tap-tap & pat-pat
When you apply your moisturizer too vigorously, you are stretching your skin. This breaks down collagen and elastin, essentially the proteins that keeps skin firm and elastic. Leading to premature signs of aging such as wrinkles.
Make sure to dab-dab, tap-tap and pat-pat your skin while moisturizing. It will help boost blood flow circulation. Make sure when you are applying moisturizer on your neck that your hands are moving upwards.
This is especially true for the eye area. The skin around your eyes are thin and extra delicate. It is usually the first place to see signs of aging. Avoid rubbing and only dab-dab, tap-tap and pat-pat.
Applying Moisturizer Only to Some Parts
The neck and chest are often neglected in a skin care routine and thus are among the first to show signs of aging. Therefore, when you moisturize your face, you do the same for your neck and chest to fight premature signs of aging.
Thinking Oily Skin Means You Don’t Need Moisturizer
If your skin type is oily, you may skip the moisturizing step but since the skin feels dry, it will begin to over produce oil to compensate the dryness. It is important to find a light-weight moisturizer that is not oil based to provide the required moisture for oily skin.
Not Moisturizing Before Applying Sunscreen
It is essential to apply moisturizer before applying your sunscreen to protect you from harmful UVA and UVB rays (broad spectrum protection).
The moisturizer will trap the water/moisture on the skin. While it keeps your skin hydrated, the coat of sunscreen will help protect you from the harmful UV rays.
"This is by far the best sunscreen I have used!! It does not have the usual sunscreen smell and absorbs nicely without feeling greasy or thick on my skin. I feel like my skin can still breath and it does not leave any white streaks like other sunscreens I’ve used in the past."
Using the Wrong Moisturizer
Using moisturizers with toxic and/or harsh ingredients in the formulation is harmful to your skin and health.
60% of what we apply to our skin is absorbed into our blood stream. This is alarming as ingredients including parabens can be harmful to our health. Source: Soul Story
According to a number of respectable health organizations, research indicates that parabens are endocrine disruptors that get stored in the body tissue and interfere with glandular activity and hormone production. In fewer words, they are suspected of disrupting your hormone balance.
When parabens are absorbed by the body through the skin, they cause hormonal imbalances since they mimic hormones such as estrogen. Studies have shown that prolonged, regular exposure to estrogen over the course of a person’s life has been linked to an increased risk of suffering from breast cancer. Even the US FDA admits that estrogenic activity in the body is associated with certain forms of breast cancer, which is why we do not want to add it to our non-toxic cosmetics.
Parabens are human-made chemicals used as preservatives in cosmetics. They are found in many beauty products, lotions, and moisturizers. It is a very cheap ingredient that helps preserve products for a long time, which is why they are so widely used.
The most common forms of parabens used in beauty products are methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben and butylparaben.
Soul Story does not formulate beauty products with parabens and other toxic or harsh ingredients for health and safety concerns.
