Coco Chanel was an orphan and her odds were stacked against her but she pursed her dream to be a fashion designer and built her own fashion house. Oprah Winfrey was born into a poor broken family from Mississippi, Unities Sates. At the age of 4 years old, she was forced to sleep outside the house because the color of her skin was too black. Her odds were also stacked against her and yet she overcame her difficult childhood by focusing on her education. It was through her love of reading and the positive influence from her grandmother and teachers that she pursed her calling in media. She understood that effective communication was her way to make a positive improvement among her viewers. Her story from rags to riches is heartwarming and encouraging for young boys and girls to learn that despite how broken and unfortunate the situations they may come from, they too can improve their life prospects. Oprah Winfrey defines the expression ‘it is how you play the cards you were dealt with that counts’.
