Important Beauty Tips in Your 30s: Don’t forget your hands

Moisturize Your Neck and Chest

The neck and chest are often neglected in a skin care routine and thus are among the first to show signs of aging.  Therefore, what you do for your face, make sure you apply the same skincare regime to your neck and chest for anti-aging.

Hydrate, Hydrate and Hydrate

Hydrate on the inside by drinking the recommended amount of water per day to help skin moisture.  Hydration from the inside also helps skin cells to slow the signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.

Protect Your Hair

Your hair ages as well.  Use shampoos without harsh chemicals such as  sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).  SLS is harmful since it cleans by corrosion, which means that it dries the skin and causes irritation by stripping the protective lipids from the skin’s surface, disabling it from effectively regulating its moisture balance.  Source: Soul Story Your Health & Safety

Moisturize Smarter

Apply Night Cream Different From Your Day Cream

Moisturizing right after cleansing is essential to prevent skin from drying.  Moisturizing with night cream before bedtime also helps skin to repair as sleep allows your body to rejuvenate and helps the skin by reducing inflammation, increasing collagen and producing antioxidants.

In general, night creams are thicker in texture and richer in nutrients, therefore they are not suitable before applying makeup.

Don’t Forget Your Hands

Protect your hands to prevent premature aging signs:

~ Apply sunscreen with broad spectrum to protect hands from harmful UVA rays during the day.

~ Moisturize after washing your hands, especially after using soaps with harsh chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS).

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is a synthetic detergent (cleaning agent) and surfactant (which means it makes bubbles). It is used in industrial products such as car wash soap, degreaser to wash engines, and bathroom and floor cleaners. Does that sound like something you would want to put on your skin? Sadly, SLS is a common ingredient found in many skincare products, but at Soul Story we believe that it has no place in our natural, non-toxic cosmetics.

~ Wear rubber gloves when doing the dishes and exposing your skin from harsh soaps and detergents.

Your hands and face can show signs of aging faster than any other part of your body.

Exercise

Soul Story’s Beauty Tip: Keep Your Makeup Brushes Clean

Find activities that you enjoy or at least something that keeps you moving for at least 30 minutes a day.  Staying active can also make your body seem nine years younger, according to studies.  Source: Mayo Clinic

Do Not Smoke

If you are a smoker, stop right away.  And avoid second hand smoke.

Smoking accelerates aging as it hampers the blood supply that keeps skin tissues looking supple and healthy.  Cigarettes contain carbon monoxide, which displaces the oxygen in your skin, leaving it dry and discolored.  Smoking prevents nutrients to help protect and repair skin damage.

Cigarettes also damages your hair.  The toxic chemicals in smoke can damage the DNA in hair follicles and generate cell-damaging free radicals.  As a result, smokers have thinner hair that tends to go grey sooner than nonsmokers. Source: Positive Habits

It is essential to improve your beauty habits in your 30s since your hormone levels start to decrease and the rate of collagen and elastin production lowers. “Cell turn-over becomes slower during your thirties, so your expression lines won’t bounce back quite like they did”, says Lorraine Scrivener, skin expert at Eden Skin Clinic.
